2013 Blue Heron Bowl Recap

Blue heron bowl 2013

Thank you to all of our participants for a wonderful 2013 Blue Heron Bowl! We had a last minute withdrawal of a school, but overall, we had 10 teams from 7 different schools! The teams met on Friday at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences for a special showing of the Beneath the Waves film festival presented by Dr. Dave Eggleston! Students were also reminded of the game rules for the next day.

Game Day started bright and early at 7:30am with another rules review and a welcome by Drs. Robinson and Eggleston. Dr. Paul Liu, faculty coordinator, attended the afternoon session as his wife just gave birth to their 3rd child! CONGRATULATIONS!

The competition was fierce and we had 2 final rounds due to the talents of NC School of Science and Math and Raleigh Charter! In the end, it was Raleigh Charter that walked away with the victory. They received a $1000 scholarship from the Marine Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (MEAS) department of NCSU, Open Water SCUBA diving lessons from Discovery Diving, an environmental educational trip from A Time For Science, and a $350 gift certificate from Amazon. CONGRATULATIONS!
